The area around Crianlarich offers a diverse range of activities. Although theatres, cinemas and nightclubs do not exist, the opportunity to join locals in impromptu ceilidhs most certainly will.
In general terms, the area will appeal to those folk who want to leave city life behind and who want to experience a different style of living.
Walkers
and climbers
will find that they are spoilt for choice from high level
climbing with the necessary technical equipment, to strolling
along the river bank with minimal footwear - all readily
accessible from the house! Transport obviously extends the
range of walks attempted, but a car is by no means essential.
A suggestion might be to just "let the train take the strain".
Fishermen/women can almost reach the river from the boundary of the grounds with a good cast, but that is probably being fanciful. The river bank is no more than thirty yards from the boundary fence. In flood conditions the river
has been through it, which certainly makes for easier fishing! The river Fillan is an excellent challenge to those who hunt brown trout, the largest caught being in the region of 3lbs. However, a good sized brownie would be in the region of 12ozs, which give great sport on light tackle.
Golfers to the area need not have a large wallet, the only
requirement is to keep the head down whilst playing the
ball. This may be more difficult to achieve than initially
thought as the scenery in this area is very distracting.
The world famous Loch
Lomond golf course is probably the finest conditioned
course in the immediate area, although also the most exclusive.
However, the courses at
Killin, Dalmally, Inveraray, and St.Fillans
offer superb value. All courses are within an easy 45 minute
drive by car. It would be worth investigating the
National Park Golf Pass which includes
Killin, St Fillans, Callander, Aberfoyle and Buchanan Castle.
